We are excited this week because we met a fan of Our Mad Life! We have gotten wonderful response from the comic from people we know, our church family, and online, but there was something different about this. Here was a guy we didn’t know who came up to us and said he was a fan. It was unexpected.
After our local NAMI Connection support group he stopped us and said how much he liked the strip. He shook both of our hands repeatedly and seemed genuinely pleased to meet us. He said one strip in particular really exemplified what he was dealing with and that he actually used it to help him manage his symptoms.
I felt a little like a celebrity or something. I’ve had people I don’t know come up to me and compliment me before, but this is someone who follows us. He’s a fan. Lenny was a little freaked out about it, but happy too. Hopefully he is just one of many fans that we will have through Our Mad Life. How cool is that?
Lenny and I were both happy that our strip was able to help someone. We didn’t give much thought to it when we first started, but when we were interviewed for the local paper we were asked what our hopes for the strip are. I know I felt, and Lenny did too, the desire to move into advocacy. We want to help people, and entertain, and educate. It was awesome to get feedback that the comic is getting out there and accomplishing those goals.
Growth of the website has been slow, but we are getting quality hits. People are coming back for multiple visits. It is by far the best performing website I’ve ever managed. Our Mad Life is spreading internationally too. We have high hopes for what we can accomplish with the comic, and it was nice to get a little validation.
